The Movie Book Strade Violente

Still, the matter is not that obvious or clear-cut. This is a book written on a mass entertainment by an art critic. And while it certainly sounds as if he is claiming for that entertainment, media rather than esthetic justifications, the gist of the text is to estheticize movie phenomena by repudiating the literalism through which they are often approached, most especially by the lay audience. So finely attuned is he to the nuances of metaphor and allusion in movies, so aware and appreciative is he of their internal artifices, that his credentials as a populist are seriously weakened. Ironically, but with some reason, the book can insist upon the non-art status of the movies in terms of art prerogatives. Violence in movies may refer to antisocial values, but that does not mean, any more than it does in art, where meaning is optional and veiled, that the mode necessarily partakes of them. When examining movies, which Alloway has taken convincing efforts to explain as very hybrid products, the implication is clear that we must use hybrid and often conflicting criteria (on a psychological as well as a technical plane). It is possible to sympathize with this inconsistency because it conditions the work of anyone probing deeply into the subject.

With Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox and their entertainment assets (which include the licenses to use characters tied to the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Silver Surfer, and Deadpool brands, among many others that were connected to those IPs but have not yet appeared on film), virtually every Marvel character that has ever appeared on the pages of one of their comic books can theoretically appear within the setting, and even after over ten years of hits, the MCU shows no signs of slowing down. Marvel has even amped up the rate at which they produce films in order to keep up with demand, and Marvel Studios expanded development to the small screen as they began working on multiple television series for Disney+; these new shows utilize characters from the setting and build up story elements that carry into the next wave of movies.
